What are affirmations anyway?
Affirmations are statements that you make in the present tense that are positive and you declare to be true. They are extremely powerful statements, always positive and always in the present tense. They work by rewiring your brain to create new thoughts about your current situation.
A lot of people consider it positive thinking, but it is so much more than that. When you get in a space, either through meditation or deep breathing, and then make these statements – and you do this on a daily basis – you will start to change your unconscious thoughts and take action towards your goals.
How can affirmations work for clear skin?
Once you start saying your affirmations (on a daily basis like I mentioned above) you will stop obsessing over your skin. The statements are helping you believe your skin is perfect the way it is and you will stop yourself from picking, overanalyzing, over-cleansing and overworking your skin.
I know this to be true because it worked for me. Several years ago I suffered from a pretty bad case of melasma all over my face. I tried everything (mostly natural) topically, read every comment in the forums online (yes it was that long ago) and nothing worked. I was definitely obsessed – I would wake up and run to the mirror to check my skin (sound familiar?) until one day I just said f-it.
I picked up a book by Louise Hay called You Can Heal Your Life and it was life-changing. Louise Hay is the Queen of positive affirmations and her story is so inspiring (grab the book to read all about her!) Louise says, “Be willing to change your words and thoughts and watch your life change. The way to control your life is to control your choice of words and thoughts.”
So I ditched all the topical products (except for Argan Oil because I love it so much) and I started working on my mind, through affirmations and meditations.
The biggest change was that I wasn’t constantly checking myself in the mirror. I would throw some concealer on and forget about it. I can’t even tell you when my skin got better because I just stopped caring about it, and my skin just looked healthy.
We can’t ignore the connection between stress and our skin
Stress has a major effect on our skin. There’s so much research coming out about the skin/brain connection and it really makes so much sense.
The basic gist of the article linked above is when we live in a constant state of stress, our bodies are overproducing cortisol. This makes it harder for our skin to repair itself and now must respond to stress through inflammatory pathways, making skin issues even worse.
So how do we get this stress under control? I found that the sweet spot is practicing deep breathing and meditation, saying affirmations for clear skin and using essential oils that are known to help with stress and anxiety.

As I say these affirmations, my skin transforms and is youthful, glowing, and radiant.
Notice how you feel after saying your affirmations. Take that feeling with you as you get on with your day. When you feel triggered or stressed, take a few deep breaths and repeat your affirmations again.
